Interns are selected based upon academic achievement, personal statements, recommendations, and career and research interests.

The ASPIRE high school internship application for summer 2024 is open! As a reminder, this is the ONLY application period for the 2024 calendar year. There will not be an academic year application.

ASPIRE is JHU APL’s unpaid, learning-based internship that provides high school juniors and seniors with the opportunity to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. During the intensive summer session, ASPIRE interns are paired with APL staff mentors to complete projects, solve problems, and learn and apply crucial technical and interpersonal skills in a hands-on, professional environment. Summer students who wish to continue their internships into the academic year may do so with mentor agreement and/or self-matching with a new mentor.

We’ve had some fun changes to ASPIRE this year and are pleased to offer:

  • An in-person or virtual experience

  • A streamlined application (no more resumes!)

  • A start date of 6/25 or 6/26 with a full-day of orientation activities 6/27

  • A gallery of projects from last summer

  • An updated sample application

We are holding one virtual community info session on January 10th from 5pm-6pm. This session will be recorded and the recording will be distributed to this mailing list. Please join us for an overview of the program, tips on standing out, and an interactive Q&A. Please feel free to forward this invite to anyone who you feel may be interested in attending!
